Most hattricks in Premier League History
Premier League history has seen many great goal scorers, but one player stands out as the leader in hat-tricks. Sergio Aguero, who played for Manchester City from 2011 to 2021, holds the record for most hat-tricks in the Premier League with 12. Aguero joined City from Atletico Madrid and quickly made an impact, scoring his first hat-trick just a month into his debut season. He went on to make 275 league appearances for City, scoring a total of 184 goals. Despite his successful career, Aguero was forced to retire due to a heart condition after his move to Barcelona.
Coming in second place is another Premier League legend, Alan Shearer with 11 hat-tricks. Robbie Fowler is in third place with 9 hat-tricks. It is worth mentioning that Manchester City’s new striker Erling Haaland already has 3 hat-tricks under his belt, shattering the record for fewest games needed to achieve three hat-tricks. Haaland achieved this in just 8 matches, beating Michael Owen’s previous record of 48 games. He also became the first Premier League player to score a hat-trick in three consecutive home league matches.

Most hattricks in a Premier League Season
As the Premier League season progresses, fans and analysts alike are keeping a close eye on one player in particular: Erling Haaland. The young striker has been making waves with his incredible scoring prowess, and has already racked up an impressive four hat tricks in just 19 games.
This puts him on pace to potentially break a record that has stood for nearly three decades. In the 1995/1996 campaign, Blackburn Rovers’ Alan Shearer scored an astounding five hat tricks, a record that still stands today.
Shearer’s first hat trick came on September 23rd, 1995 against Coventry City, and he went on to score three more before the holiday break against Nottingham Forest, West Ham, and Bolton. His final hat trick came in March against Tottenham. Despite missing three of Blackburn’s final seven matches, Shearer finished the year with 31 league goals, with nearly half of them coming from his five hat tricks.
While Haaland has a long way to go to match Shearer’s record, he’s already in elite company. Tottenham’s Harry Kane is second in this ranking with four hat tricks in the 2016/2017 season. Other players with multiple hat tricks in a Premier League season include Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, Sergio Aguero, Wayne Rooney, Didier Drogba, Michael Owen, and now Erling Haaland. It will be interesting to see if Haaland can continue this scoring pace and make a run at Shearer’s record.

Erling Haaland’s hattricks record chase
Erling Haaland, the new striker for Manchester City, has set his sights on breaking a number of Premier League records. The 22-year-old Norwegian has made an impressive start to his career in the English top flight, scoring back-to-back hat-tricks in only his fourth and fifth appearances, against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest, in late August 2022. Now, by January 22nd, he has hit four Premier League hat tricks after his latest against Wolves.
Haaland’s early success has sparked speculation that he could eventually challenge Sergio Aguero’s Premier League record of 12 career hat-tricks. However, before he sets his sights on that goal, he might first target Alan Shearer’s single-season mark of five hat-tricks.
At such a young age, it’s entirely possible that Haaland will continue to dominate the Premier League and become a true legend of the sport by the time he hangs up his boots. His early success has certainly caught the attention of fans and analysts alike, and it will be exciting to see how far he can go in his quest to break records and make a name for himself in the English game.
